Collection Scope and Content

Henry Failing scrapbooks (SAFR 226, HDC 465) is comprised of two volumes that contain correspondence, certificates, bills of lading, and receipts associated with the Corbett, Failing, & Company for the years spanning 1855-1890. This collection has been processed and is open for use without restriction.
The correspondence focuses on the business of Corbett, Failing, & Company and includes incoming and outgoing correspondence. There are many letters written to P.C. Dart Commission Merchant in San Francisco in 1867-1868, a letter from the Treasury Department dated 1869, a letter from the Empire City, Oregon, Custom House dated 1878, and a letter from the Pacific Mail Steamship Company & Panama Railroad Co.
There are bills of lading from the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, and Oregon Steamship Company. Miscellaneous papers include Certificate of Discharge for George W. Douglas, documents from the Merchant Exchange Association, and shipping receipts.
