Background
Tede Matthews (1951–1993) was a poet and activist. He was a collective member of Modern Times bookstore and organized many literary events around San Francisco. His interests included AIDS activism, work in solidarity with anti-imperialist struggles in Central and South America, and projects in support of the people's movement in Chile in the 1970s and the Sandinistas in Nicaragua in the 1980s.
