Scope and Content of Collection

The collection primarily contains correspondence, interviews, newspapers and other printed material relating to John D. Peterson's UCLA dissertation research in Brazilian history, ca. 1960s. Peterson, who taught in the History Department at UCSB at the time, died before completing the dissertation.
The bulk of the collection is in Portuguese. Included are items such as issues of the bulletin of the Liga de Defesa Nacional and Catolicismo, research files and interviews relating to Hermes da Fonseca (president of Brazil, 1910-1914), and various monarchist publications.
