    Biography/Administrative History

    McFarland (1867-1924) entered West Point in 1884 and graduated in 1888. He rose to the rank of Brigadier General in his military career.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Correspondence, photographs, clippings and military documents relating to the career of Munroe McFarland, United States Army. Subject matter includes cadet life at West Point in the 1880s; army life in South Dakota. There are photographs of the Battle of Wounded Knee, 1890, published by Northwestern Photograph Company, Chadron, Nebraska, and a group photo, 1890, with Buffalo Bill. There are personal travel photos taken abroad in 1912.
