Scope and Contents
Series 1 Negatives is a collection of approximately 4,000 2-1/4 inch black and white negatives primarily taken 3/4 view, rolling
stock and some diesel and steam motive power of Western United States railway equipment, circa 1950-1970. The bulk of the
collection is of Denver and Rio Grande Western and the Union Pacific.
Sub-Series 1 Processed negatives is a selection of black and white negatives of 3/4 view and side elevation views of rolling
stock and motive power. When possible, the railroad name, type of equipment and additional pertinent information has been
identified and labeled on the negative sleeve.
Subseries 2 Unprocessed negatives is arranged by the railroad name. It includes black and white negatives of interior, exterior,
side elevation and 3/4 images of railroad rolling stock. It consists of negatives that have not been rehoused and relabeled
and these items have not been given a negative number and catalogued.
There are images of railroad rolling stock and motive power in both series. In these cases, specific images have been chosen
to be cataloged because the image is of a popular or important piece of equipment or might represent an important piece of
equipment in railroad history. In many cases there are identical negatives of the same image, in these cases one negative
has been chosen to catalog and the remaining images are in the unprocessed series.
Series 2 Prints is a collection of 4x6 and smaller, black and white print photos for railroads across the United States.
This is a collection of printed photos from the following photographers; Brewster, Harre Demoro, Arthur B. Johnson and Otto
C. Perry. Most of the photos have a location, date, and railroad printed on the reverse. Prints not taken by Brewster are
marked with the photographer's name.
Please see the CSRM Catalog for a listing of the catalogued, processed negatives or the attached PDF.
