Abstract: Materials relating to Howard H. Thompson's career with the Southern Pacific Company including Division and system passes
(1928-1951), a commemorative certificate (in metal) of attendance at the Golden Gate International Exposition (1939), two
Sacramento Division seniority roster and time books (January 1, 1931, July 1, 1947), and a copy of David L. Joslyn's 3-page
1948 article "From Out of the Past" regarding the 1913 50-year commemoration of groundbreaking in Sacramento for the construction
of the transcontinental railroad on January 8, 1863.

Biography/Administrative History
Howard Hobbs Thompson worked for the Southern Pacific Company on the Sacramento Division for over 26 years. He began as a
clerk and was by 1934 a stenographer-clerk. In 1943 he had risen in rank to become the Secretary to the Superintendent of
Motive Power.
Howard H. Thompson was born in West Virginia on September 30, 1885 and died on August 19, 1951 in Sacramento County, California.
His brother-in-law was longtime SP telegrapher Frank L. Rector (MS 558).
