Content Description
The materials consist of cartoons related to cars and technology. The car-related material includes "Nigel Shiftright" cartoons
and other cartoons done for Road and Track magazine, both in black and white and in color. The technology-related material
includes black-and-white cartoons with annotations, editorials, color cartoons, artwork, reprints and tear sheets, and select
issues of publications in which various cartoons appear. Includes both physical cartoons and digital surrogates; some digital
surrogates on disk.
Biographical / Historical
Joseph Troise (born 1942) and Phil Frank (1943-2007) collaborated on cartoon work for Road and Track magazine beginning in
1986. The two developed the cartoon charater "Nigel Shiftright, Automotive Anachronism" for the magazine. In addition to their
work for Road & Track, Troise is an automobile appraiser and an author, and Frank had a successful career as a cartoonist,
writing the comic strips "Farley" and "The Elderberries." The two also worked on other technology-related artwork together.
