Description
Madison was an AIDS volunteer and educator. The collection contains correspondence and photographs of the many "boys" hospitalized with AIDS for whom Madison cared. The collection also includes posters, and audio- and videotape on the subject of AIDS in the United States and abroad, including some lectures by Madison.
Background
Annemarie Madison was born on November 21, 1920 in Jakarta, Indonesia. She moved back to Holland with her family after her mother contracted malaria. Annemarie met Lou Madison in 1950 and married him in 1956; their son, Michael was born in 1958.

Restrictions
All requests for permission to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted in writing to the City Archivist. Permission for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the owner of the physical items.
