The collection was donated by Kathleen Harris 1996, and it was formally accessioned in 1998. Ms. Harris found the photographs
while going through her basement. There is no further information about how the photographs came to be stored in her basement.
The photographs were originally framed when they were donated; however, the frames have since been discarded.

The Kathleen Harris photograph collection, 1914-1965, (SAFR 24247, P98-024) is comprised of photographs mainly of Pacific
Coast merchant steamships. The collection has been processed to the Collection level and is open for use.
Contains photographs of cargo steamships underway and docked, 1914-1965. There are 17 unique photographic images in 19 physical
forms (black-and-white photographic prints). Most locations are unknown, but some have been identified as the San Francisco
Bay Area, California; Australia, and France. Photographers Joe D. Williamson and Howard Wood were based in the state of Washington,
so some of the photographs may have been taken in the Seattle region. All of the vessels, possibly with the exception of EXHIBITOR,
had a home port located on the Pacific Coast (either San Francisco, California; Portland, Oregon; or Seattle, Washington)
at some point during their career. Some of the vessels were built during World War II as Victory Ships (ALLEGHENY VICTORY
and PERMANENTE SILVERBOW, ex SILVERBOW VICTORY) or Liberty Ships (HANNIBAL HAMLIN and OLYMPIC PIONEER, ex JAMES A. DRAIN).
- Item 01: ALLEGHENY VICTORY (built 1945; freighter) docked at Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, port broadside view, 1946 May 2. ALLEGHENY VICTORY is in the foreground and an unidentified freighter is docked in the middle distance. ALLEGHENY VICTORY is operated by the Olympic Steamship Company. - Item 07: HAMLIN F. MCCORMICK (built 1919; freighter) underway with a deck load of lumber in San Francisco Bay, California, view off the port bow, 1936-1947. The vessel is dressed. The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is in the background. (1) black-and-white photographic print, 8 x 10 in.
- Item 08: HANNIBAL HAMLIN (built 1943; freighter) docked at Marseille, France, port broadside view, possibly 1947. The vessel was operated by the Olympic Steamship Company. (2) black-and-white photographic prints, 8 x 11.75 in. and 11.5 x 15.25 in., of the same image. The larger print has the following handwritten inscription on the front: "Am." Vap'r - S/S 'HANIBAL HAMLIN' QUAI PRESIDENT WILSON, MARSEILLE. OBRIEN - COMMANDANT 8/III/47." The smaller print is stamped on the front with the following: "E. NOSSOFF - 6, Boulevard Dunkerque [illegible], Colbert MARSEILLE."

- Item 17: SANTACRUZCEMENT (built 1920; freighter) underway, aerial view off the starboard bow, 1934-1951. The vessel was operated by the Santa Cruz Portland Cement Company. "5 114" is stamped on the verso and "B-19" is handwritten on the verso. (1) black-and-white photographic print, 8 x 10 in.
There is also one backing board (possibly for Item 08) with handwritten notes. Written on the left: "Left - Charleston, S.C.
Sept. 2 - 1946 / Arrived Amsterdam, Holland - / Left - Amsterdam, Holland / Arrived Safi, French Morocco, N. Africa." Written
in the upper right corner: "Arrived, Marseille - March 6, 1947 / Marseille - France - March 8, 1947".
