Description
Chow Shih-lin (Zhou Shilin) attended the Nationalist Chinese air force in the 1940s, became a member of General Chennault's Flying Tigers, was a founding member of Taiwan's Air Force Thunder Tigers and fought in the 1958 Offshore Island crisis. The Chow Shih-lin papers includes personal diaries, Flying Tigers journals, photograph albums, videotapes, optical disks, and miscellaneous publications related to the Flying Tigers.
Background
Chow Shih-lin (Zhou Shilin) was born in Changde, Hunan Province. He attended the Nationalist Chinese air force in the 1940s and was among the first to be chosen and sent to the United States for air force training program. After returning to China, Chow became a member of Genera l Chennault's Flying Tigers fighting against the Japanese. After 1949, Chow went to Taiwan and became a founding member of Taiwan's Air Force Thunder Tigers. He fought in the 1958 Offshore Island crisis, and was later promoted to head of air force combat command, head of the political department, air force, and deputy command-in-chief of air force. He died in Taipei in April 2019.
