Abstract: Material regarding the Torrey Pines Institute (T.P.I.) of the Young Foundation for Medical Research. The foundation was first
established in 1954 as a non-profit corporation. It was created by H. Mark Young, M.D. as a memorial to Nancy Boyer Young,
a pioneer resident of San Diego, who died in 1940. The foundation and its activities were moved from Los Angeles to the San
Diego area in 1960. The “Torrey Pines Institute” was added to the corporate name. The primary purpose of the organization
is study, research, and dissemination of knowledge regarding cancer and related diseases. Material includes correspondence,
rosters, meeting agendas, financial statements, pamphlets, and booklets. Provenance unknown but possibly belonging to Clara
E. Breed, San Diego City Librarian, who served on the T.P.I. Board of Trustees.
