Reverend Ben Thomson Cowles, PhD (1915 - ) is an ordained Presbyterian pastor and clinical psychologist. He served as missionary to China in 1946, and pastor to the St. John’s Community Presbyterian Church during the 1950s. The collection contains materials associated with Dr. Cowles’ pastorate in the Presbyterian Church, missionary travels, and books.
Background
Reverend Ben Thomson Cowles, PhD (1915 - ) is an ordained Presbyterian pastor and clinical psychologist. Raised in China by missionary parents, Dr. Cowles later transitioned to the United States for his higher education. He earned his credentials from Union Theologial Seminary, UC Berkley, and the University of Southern California. He served as missionary to China in 1946, and pastor to the St. John’s Community Presbyterian Church during the 1950s. Publications: Free to Be Responsible: How to Assume Response-Ability, Pasadena, Calif. : Hope Publishing House (1990, 2011).
