Gift from James Rolph III.
SAFR-00001 is a blanket accession that was transferred from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) to the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park in September 1988. GGNRA had previously acquired the collection from the San Francisco Maritime Museum when it became a unit of the National Park Service in 1977.
GOGA-00789 was transferred from the J. Porter Shaw Library to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) in February 1985.

The James Rolph III photograph collection, 1912, (SAFR 24837, P78-418a) is comprised of a photograph of ANNIE M. REID(built 1892; bark, 4m) during her renaming ceremony on San Francisco Bay, California. The collection has been processed to the Item level and is open for use.
Contains one 26.25 x 25.25 in. board with 4 black-and-white photographic prints mounted on it showing various scenes from the ceremony to rename HOWARD D. TROOP to ANNIE M. REID (built 1892; bark, 4m) on San Francisco Bay, California, 1912. Includes a view of the vessel anchored in the Bay and deck views of James Rolph Jr., Annie M. Reid Rolph, George Hind, Captain Durkee, and other guests on board.
2 black-and-white copy negatives were made of two of the four images.

Scope and Content Note

Renaming of HOWARD D. TROOP to ANNIE M. REID, owned by Hind, Rolph & Company. Medley of four views. The upper left image shows the vessel at anchor, view off the starboard bow. The lower left image shows a group of people handling flags on board the vessel. The upper right image shows flags while raising. The lower right image view shows a Annie M. Reid Rolph breaking a bottle on top of a bitt on board the vessel with Captain Durkee looking on.
Identified in the lower left image in the background, left to right are Shouck, Edward Rainey (secretary to Rolph), San Francisco Chief of Police Thomas P. Walsh, Captain W.T. Lewis, George Hind, James Rolph Jr., daughter Annette Rolph, Mrs. Durkee, and Captain Durkee. In the foreground, left to right are two unknown ship's boys, daughter Georgina Rolph, son James Rolph III, and wife Annie M. Reid Rolph.
