Family albums, glass negatives, album of (52) loose vintage photographs; personal letters, scientific publications, documents,
clippings, and miscellaneous items. The materials document the lives of Emil Fischer, Hermann Otto Laurenz Fischer and Agnes
Fischer Peterson. The materials are in German and English.
Biographical / Historical
Emil Fischer (October 9, 1852 – July 15, 1919) was a German chemist who won a Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Emil Fischer's son,
Hermann Otto Laurenz Fischer (December 16, 1888 - March 9, 1960) left Nazi Germany in the 1930s and in 1948 became a professor
of biochemistry at the University of California Berkeley. Hermann Fischer's daughter, Agnes Fischer Peterson (March 8, 1923
- September 1, 2008), was a long-time curator at the Hoover Institution.
