    Content Description

    This collection consists of one book, an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) Publication, No. 8, from February 7, 1945. The book is titled "Kanji Abbreviations, Variants and Equivalents." The book is labeled as Confidential and strictly for military personnel. A preface at the front of the book denotes that this publication has been necessitated from the increasing use of abbreviations, variants and equivalents in Japanese army orders. There is a photographic reproduction of a captured Japanese Army document authorizing the use of abbreviated character forms discussed in the book.
