Biography/Administrative History

Four-S Bakery was founded in Los Angeles in 1922. Donor John Mieding began at Four-S and finished his career as Western Regional Manager of Interstate Brands Corporation. Four-S Bakery first merged with other baking companies into Western Bakeries and later Interstate Bakeries Corp. (reorganized into Interstate Brands Corporation).

Scope and Content of Collection

Business records and photographs pertaining to Four-S Bakery, Interstate Brands Corporation, Good Stuff Bakery, and Good Stuff Food Company, Inc. Covers operations and statistics of the bread and commercial bakery industry in southern California. Contains a manuscript titled "A Story About a Bakery, Four-S Bakery, 1922-2000" written by Elmer Pedrotti, Joe Tarro and John Mieding, chronicling company history and subsequent mergers through facts, anecdotes, humor, and remembrances. Also a collection of dinner programs/menus from the Les Amis d'Escoffier Society. 1942-2005, undated (bulk 1963-1995)
