    Scope and Content of Collection

    The focus of this album of albumen photographs is Tunisia, although it also contains five views of Tripoli and surrounding areas in Libya. Tunisian locations represented are Carthage, Tunis, Bizerte, Sfax, and Qayrawān. Included are views of streets, ports, Arab quarters, homes and palaces, markets, nomad encampments, and oases.
    There are several interior and exterior views of the Qsar es-Saïd or Bardo Palace in Tunis before it became a museum in 1888, as well as views of athe palace of Dar al-Taj in La Marsa. Views of ancient monuments include the Roman aqueduct in Tunis and Punic tombs in Carthage. There are also five views of the Great Mosque of Qayrawān.
    Titles of images are devised by the cataloger, except for those of four photographs that have French captions in the negative.
