    Biography

    Arthur Leslie Erb (1923-1983) was an American judge, lawyer, and mayor. He married Eunice Highland Reeder in October 1924; their daughter Eunice Erb Goodan was married to Douglas “Doug” Goodan, grandson of Harry Chandler. Erb was appointed as the first judge of the then newly established Beverly Hills city court in June 1932. He also started the first law office in Beverly Hills and was the first president of the Beverly Hills Bar Association. From the 1930s-1940s, he served as a councilman and mayor in Beverly Hills, and stepped down as mayor in 1945.

    Scope and Content

    This papers consist primarily of material related to Arthur Leslie Erb and his career in Beverly Hills, California, from 1926-2013. Box 1 includes a photobook related to Erb; Gillespie’s Guide: Los Angeles (1931); and American Armies and Battlefields in Europe (1938). Oversize folder 1 includes a copy of the Constitution of Beverly Hills Bar Association and The Beverly Hills Citizen newspaper volume XIII, number 10. Oversize folder 2 includes photographs of the following: Beverly Hills Police Department; Beverly Hills City Council; and events at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Albums 1-3 contain certificates, clippings, letters, programs, and letters related to Erb’s career and Beverly Hills from 1926-2013. Album 4 contains photographs related to the construction and completion of Philip Chandler’s house in Pasadena from 1916-1922. The undated map, along with a copy, shows a section of Inverness Ave and Hillhurst Avenue in Los Angeles.
