    Scope and Contents

    The collection mainly consists of 37 Audio tapes of interviews of Mexican Jews in Tijuana and San Diego from the mid 1990's in Spanish, conducted by Elena Saad for a Master's Thesis entitled, "La Comunidad Israelita de Tijuana" (The Jewish community of Tijuana). The collection includes newspaper clippings, correspondence, handwritten and printed materials regarding her research on the Jews of Tijuana. Most of the materials are in Spanish. General descriptions of the material in English were completed by Marilyn Tom.

    The copyright interests in these materials have not been transferred to San Diego State University. Copyright resides with the creators of materials contained in the collection or their heirs. The nature of historical archival and manuscript collections is such that copyright status may be difficult or even impossible to determine.  Requests for permission to publish must be submitted to the Head of Special Collections, San Diego State University, Library and Information Access.     Custodial History

    This collection was donated to the Jewish Historical Society by Elena  Fishman de Saad in September, 2014 (#2014.01). It was transferred to the San Diego State University Library and Information Access on July 21, 2015.

    Biographical Note

    Elena Fishman de Saad was born in Mexico City. In Mexico she raised four children and then began her studies, receiving a graduate degree in history from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in 1977. The family came to San Diego in 1982 and Saad began studies for a Master's Degree at UCSD. She presented papers at various academic conferences in Latin America and the United States.
