Administrative History

The United Nations Assosication. of Los Angeles had its origins in the Los Angeles League of Nations Association; after the American Association for the United Nations (AAN) was formed, this became the Los Angeles chapter; in the mid-1950s, the name United Nations Association of Los Angeles was adopted; in 1964 the national assn. became known as the UN Association.

Scope and Contents

Collection consists of congratulatory letters from distinguished persons, city resolutions from Los Angeles mayors Tom Bradley and Sam Yorty, organizational records such as by-laws, newsletters, correspondence and minutes, and subject files on topics of interest to the organization and the United Nations. Subject files include Chatham House Conference, Los Angeles Peace Council, Neutrality bill, Italy-Ethiopia, Ralph Bunche, UNICEF, World conference on religion and peace, International year of peace, and Southern Rhodesia.
