Collection consists of the books, tapes, DVDs, and papers belonging to author and media arts historian Anne Friedberg (1952-2009).
Background
Anne Friedberg (1952-2009) was an author, professor, historian, and theorist on modern media culture. She served as the chair
of the Critical Studies Division in the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California and President-elect
of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies. Friedberg received her PhD in cinema studies from NYU, and she helped create
doctoral programs in visual studies at UC Irvine where she taught for 18 years. In 2003 she joined the faculty of USC, where
she was a professor in the School of Cinematic Arts, with joint appointments in English and art history. In 2009, she was
named an Academy Scholar by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She died in Los Angeles on October 9, 2009, at
the age of 57.
