    Scope and Contents

    This collection contains mostly materials related to martial law in the Philippines under Proclamation 1081 which was publically announced in September 1972 by President Ferdinand Marcos. Also included are other materials related to the Philippines and Filipinos such as: a Manila church marketing brochure.

    Biographical / Historical

    On September 23, 1972, President Ferdinand E. Marcos placed the Philippines under martial law under Proclamation 1081 as a way to impose military authority in the country, placing control to the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Marital law was lifted by President Marcos on January 17, 1981.
