This collection consists of the diaries and daybooks written by Marie Cecil White Smith over the course of sixty years.
Background
Marie Cecil White Smith (1892-1976) was a longtime resident of Chico, Redding, and finally, Santa Rosa and kept extensive
diaries until 1970 where she recorded her observations and experiences living in California. White Smith was also the older
sister of Lewis Edmund White who studied mechanical engineering at Stanford University from 1913 to 1917 before being drafted
into WWI. An account of this time was recorded in her diaries.

While University Archives is the owner of the physical and/or digital items, permission to examine collection materials is
not an authorization to publish. These materials are made available for use in research, teaching, and private study. Any
