Charles Carlson (1851-1929) was born in Sweden and emigrated to the United States in 1867. He worked at various places across the country before he finally came to Los Angeles, California in 1875. He became a naturalized citizen in 1876 and acquired land in Orange County, California. In 1880, he returned to Sweden in order to marry Emma Mathilda Peterson; together they had five children. On their California ranch, the couple raised oranges, apricots, grapes, and barley.
