Transfer from Merrill College, 2017.
Merrill College is a residential college in the University of California, Santa Cruz. It
was founded in 1968 as the fourth college at UCSC, and early faculty and students
established an academic focus on the study of global poverty and cultural identity in the
Global South.
This collection comprises records from Merrill College at the University of California,
Santa Cruz. Included are administrative records; budgets; core course syllabi; course
proposals and requests for course approvals; committee agendas and minutes; documentation of
the People's Alternative Dwelling cooperative housing; event flyers, posters and other
ephemera; photographs of Merrill College staff, students and buildings; and newspaper
clippings and scrapbooks that document the history of the college.
Also included are reports and resource catalogs produced by the Third World Teaching
Resource Center (TWTRC), a research project and collection of academic resources related to
the study of the Global South. Included are a selection of papers and textual portions of
slideshow presentations created by Merrill students, which were made available for research
in the TWTRC, which was located within the Merrill College Library. Some of these resources
include audio components on cassette tape.
Also included are digital videos and photographs featuring imagery of Merrill College from
circa 1999-2013, and a small number of digital photographs of the College and its students
and staff in the late 1960s-1970s.
This collection is arranged into four series:
