Gift of Robert H. Power, 1978.
Biography/Administrative History
The San Francisco, Napa & Calistoga Railway came about in 1911 for the purchase and operation of the San Francisco, Vallejo
& Napa Valley Railroad, which had itself been organized to extend the Vallejo, Benicia & Napa Valley Railroad. The Vallejo,
Benicia & Napa Valley Railroad had been organized in 1903 to build from Vallejo to White Sulfur Springs, and from Napa to
Jackson's Soda Springs. The line was completed to Calistoga in June 1907. The San Francisco, Napa & Calistoga was again
reorganized in 1935 as the San Francisco & Napa Valley and survived until 1956.
Scope and Content of Collection
These records are minimally processed and are organized by company and consist mostly of miscellaneous invoices and vouchers
for the Vallejo, Benicia & Napa Valley, San Francisco, Vallejo & Napa Valley, and the San Francisco, Napa & Calistoga. A
few folders contain material relating to specific subjects such as construction or wrecks. In addition, there is a small
amount of legal documentation and correspondence in the collection.
