Biography

The Alamo Drafthouse is an American cinema chain headquartered in Austin, Texas, with locations in Texas and Virginia. The Alamo Drafthouse began producing limited-edition silkscreen posters in 2003. Mondo, the company's art boutique, produces more than 120 posters annually, and through it graphic artists such as Martin Ansin, Shepard Fairey, Olly Moss, Tyler Stout, and Ken Taylor are commissioned to create new art for classic films, as well as alternative posters for contemporary movies.

Collection Scope and Content Summary

Titles in the Alamo Drafthouse collection of Mondo posters span the years 1931-present. Among the more than 845 prints are posters for the classic horror film FRANKENSTEIN (1931), created by Drew Struzan, and the more contemporary animation tale THE IRON GIANT (1999), illustrated by Laurent Durieux. Acquired in 2011, with further accruals. The repository continues to add materials to this collection on a regular basis.
