Scope and Content of Collection
The Christie Miles Bourdet Rudyard Kipling Collection consists of one box of letters and news clippings related to Kipling,
a box of Kipling related glassware, and one oversize box containing mainly newspaper obituaries. In addition, the collection
includes a set of original copies of the South African newspaper "The Friend" for which Kipling was a correspondent. The
newspapers date from 1900, during the time of the Boer War. For preservation and research purposes the newspapers have been
encapsulated and are now stored in Map Case 3. There is a separate LINUS entry in the William H. Hannon OPAC for these items.
Some of the items, including handwritten letters by Kipling and newspaper clippings by and about Kipling, were mounted in
a Red Scrapbook. These have been removed for preservation and research purposes and placed in folders in Box 1. The final
page of the scrapbook contained a large number of folded newspaper clippings, mostly obituaries for Kipling. These have been
placed with the other obituaries in oversize Box 3.
