Scope and Contents

This collection contains one travel diary in the format of a fictitious "ship's log" detailing the European travels of Oliver M. Davis of Boston, Massachusetts from June 22 to September 13, 1900.
The diary is entitled "Log of the Good Ship O. M. Davis. Boston, Mass. From June 22 to Sept. 13, 1900. (signed) Oliver M. Davis CAPT."
Travel was undertaken via ship to Europe followed by train travel to various locales. The album contains a total of 153 pages of manuscript entries detailing the cities and counties visited on this trip including France, England, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. Accounts note sights seen, meals eaten and day-to-day travel activities. Pasted in with the diary accounts are various travel related ephemera (194 items total): tickets, letters, menus, bills, maps, small format images (ships) and receipts among other items. There is also a travel permit issued by the United States Department of State on June 8, 1990.
The front cover of album has a pasted-on sticker (handwritten): "Voyage. Cattle-ship 'Anglian' 1900. Version O.M.Davis" and a red-colored printed sticker "Europe Trip" is on the upper top binding of the album.
