Waldemar P. Scherer was born on December 8, 1889 in Mankato, Minnesota to his parents George William Scherer and Minna Manderfeld.
He remained living there and married Wilamine "Minnie" Hanson in 1916. They had five children; Robert, William, Richard,
Betty, and Waldemar, Jr. Included in the collection are letters to Richard while he was serving as a Marine in the Second
World War. Waldemar worked as an "advertising man" for Standard Oil Company and wrote for the Mankato (Minnesota) Free Press
in a series of columns titled "Overseas Mail." Waldemar passed away May 16, 1970 in Mankato.
