Abstract: The Diablo (built 1919; freighter) pamphlet (SAFR 21362, HDC1303) describes the S.S. DIABLO, a 416 foot, six inch freighter
built by Pacific Coast Shipbuilding Co., San Francisco, California. The ship was built for the U.S. Shipping Board before
World War II. The collection includes profile, top and side views of the ship. It also includes tables that note Particulars;
Shipbuilders Capacities; Water Ballast; Oil Tanks; Coal; Fresh Water; and Deadweight Scale. The collection is open for use.

Part of a bulk accession from Golden Gate National Recreation Area to the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park
in 1988.
Historical or Biographical Note
Pacific Coast Shipbuilding was organized in 1918 to build cargo ships for the U.S. Shipping Board. Local developer Robert
Burgess built it next to the terminus of the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific Railroads.
