Background
The Whitman-Radclyffe Foundation (WRF) began in San Francisco in 1972 as the "education, research, and charitable arm" of
the California Committee for Sexual Law Reform (established in 1971). In addition to educational outreach focused on improving
public perception of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender experience, WRF assisted individuals and organizations "in formulating
programs and securing funding to provide services to the homosexual community not provided by existing social services and
civil rights organizations."
