    Biographical Information:

    Carmen Ramos worked as a newspaper reporter for nearly 17 years, most recently with the Los Angeles Daily News, where she covered Los Angeles' minority communities while also reporting on higher education and serving as a general assignment reporter. She covered the 1992 Los Angeles Riots and the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Chandler is the Director of Media Relations at California State University, Northridge.

    Scope and Contents

    The Carmen Ramos Chandler Collection documents Chandler's term as president of the Los Angeles Newspaper Guild, and her work at California State University, Northridge during her time as a reporter for the Los Angeles Daily News. The collection dates from 1987 to 1996, and is composed of two series: Series I, Los Angeles Newspaper Guild Files (1987-1994), and Series II, Reporter's Notes (1987-1996).
    Series I, Los Angeles Newspaper Guild Files, documents LANG executive meetings and elections as well as workplace health hazards. It consists of bulletins, correspondence, flyers, minutes, and notes. The series is organized alphabetically.
    Series II, Reporter's Notes, documents Chandler's research process especially in writing stories about CSUN. It consists of newspaper articles, clippings, and other notes regarding news and events on and around the California State University, Northridge campus. Topics include the ZBT protest, affirmative action and the EOP, University president Blenda Wilson, and the Bradford (David Paul) decision. The series is arranged alphabetically.
