Biographical / Historical

Staff Sergeant Robert Darst Mumaugh, United States Army (7/8/1913 - 5/26/1974) was born in Michigan and lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was ordered to report for induction on May 15, 1943 in Indianapolis and served in the 210th and 3037th Quartermaster Bakery Company in the European Theater during the Second World War. After the war, he was given leave and enjoyed the sites in Switzerland and Belgium while stationed in the Berlin Sector. He was married to Nina Lucile Mumaugh neé Summers, who was the sister of Signalman Second Class Harold Edgar Summers, United States Navy (1919 - 12/7/1941) who was killed on the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor (2018-164-w-r).

Mumaugh and a drawn picture, military documents such as his order to report and from his time overseas, as well as documents relating to leave and memorabilia from his leave in Switzerland and Belgium. Also included are two maps from 1951.

Scope and Contents

This series contains seven black and white photographs of SSgt. Robert D. Mumaugh, USA during the Second World War and two color photographs of his mother Nancy, as well as one drawn, color portrait of Mumaugh apparently years after the war. The six of the black and white photos show SSgt. Mumaugh in uniform, some with other soldiers, and one portrait of him in a suit.

This series contains military documents belonging to SSgt. Robert D. Mumaugh, USA during the Second World War. Included are hi order to report for induction in 1943, a Soldier's Individual Pay Record, one enlisted man's identification card, four orange passes (in French) and one red pass for access to the Berlin District, one Authorization of Class B Allotment for Purchase of War Savings Bonds, and one authorization for allotment of pay.

Scope and Contents

This series contains various memorabilia from the leaves taken by SSgt. Robert D. Mumaugh, USA during the Second World War, as well as some other materials including a birthday card and napkin to his mother, Nancy, to cartoons, and mileage ration tickets.
The series includes offical documents; one list of leave approval from the First Ariborne headquarters in the Berlin District and a flight order for his return to Berlin from Frankfurt Eschborn Air Force Station as well as an information sheet for the Switzerland Leave Center.
The series also includes memorabilia picked up while on leave including show tickets and cards from hotels and cafes, an information sheet for Americans visiting the Zoological Garden in Basle, Switzerland, three travel brochures for Switzerland, and one book on the Lago di Lugano. Also included is one enlisted man's pass for leave to Seattle, Washington in October 1943.
