Description
The collection contains recorded and transcribed interviews conducted by Douglas Daniels regarding the life and career of musician Lester Young in preparation for his book, Lester Leaps In: The Life and Times of Lester 'Pres' Young, and also regarding the history of the Santa Barbara Blues Society.
Background
Douglas Daniels is a Professor Emeritus of both the Department of Black Studies and the Department of History at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He received his BA in Political Science from the University of Chicago, and M.A. and Ph. D. in History from the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests include African American history, the history of jazz, African popular music, and the use of oral history and photography in the study of culture.
