Scope and Content of Collection

This collection consists of a black and white photograph album of the construction of the Pardee Dam on the Mokelumne River in northern California near Valley Springs from 1927 through 1929. Embossed on the front is the title "Construction of the Pardee Dam Mokelumne River Project Valley Springs, Calif. 1927-1929 Atkinson Construction Company Contractors." The photographs record all stages of construction that the Atkinson Construction Company undertook, from the initial breaking of ground to the closing ceremony. William Mulholland (1855-1935), director and chief engineer of Los Angeles' public works, most likely served as a consultant on this project. His name (although misspelled) and designation of "Consulting Engineer" are stamped on the front cover, suggesting that this was his personal copy.
