Description
The George Budaeff Collection consists of correspondence, documents, ephemera and photographs related to George's life in Russia, China, and San Francisco, California. A number of government documents are included with biographical and immigration information. The collection also includes some material that belonged to George's brother, Dr. Ivan T. Budaeff (1896-1956).
Background
George Budaeff was born May 4th, 1900 in Oranburg, Russia. He served in Alexander Kolchak's Russian Army during World War I. In the early 1920s George Budaeff fled Russia after the Revolution and relocated to Harbin, China before ultimately immigrating to San Francisco, California in 1923. Buadeff had an older brother, Dr. Ivan T. Budaeff (1896-1956), who fled Russia in 1917 during the Revolution and relocated to China before ultimately immigrating to the United States as well. George Budaeff met and married Alexandra Mogila in the United States; she was also a Russian immigrant. He owned and ran George Budaeff Painting and Decorating in San Francisco. Budaeff died in 1978.
