Description
A collection of approximately 75 postcards and handmade cards sent from schoolchildren in Poland to Lucjan Krause (1928-2022), a member of the Polish underground resistance who fought in the Warsaw Uprising (1944). The cards, mostly written by Polish schoolchildren in 2018, express gratitude for Krause's wartime sacrifice and heroism. The cards in this collection were designed and delivered as part of a Polish campaign--"BohaterON"--to commemorate and honor the participants of the Warsaw Uprising and promote the history of Poland in the 20th century.
Background
Lucjan Krause (1928-2022) was a Polish physicist, professor emeritus at the University of Windsor in Canada, and a veteran of the Warsaw Uprising (1944). Catherine Quinlan, Dean of the USC Libraries, is Lucjan Krause's daughter.
