Scope and Contents

These are the court documents pertaining to the trial of Ah Hung, September, ?, 1839. He was accused of murdering William R. McCormick by shooting him - with a pistol loaded with gunpowder and lead. The first document describes the crime. The second two documents are both documents finding Ah Hung guilty of murder signed by two different jurors. The first is dated October 4, 1839, Jackson (Amador Co.), and signed by Jacob Cunmminger(?), foreman. The second is dated Oct. 3rd, 1839, and is signed by the Deputy (Rynerson), the clerk (Pawling), and the foreman, H.W. Allen. No explanation is given as to why there are two verdicts, with two different foremans.
