Description
Meeting minutes, correspondence, press releases, resolutions, agendas, scheduling lists, clippings, financial documents, song sheets, delegate forms, delegate lists, and other material documenting planning and implementation of the North American Lesbian and Gay Religious Congress (NALGRC), 1979-1982. Held in Atlanta, Georgia in November of 1982, the event was a constitutional convention for the NALGRC, an organization representing the lesbian and gay caucuses of over 20 religious (primarily Christian) denominations.
Background
The North American Lesbian and Gay Religious Congress, held in Atlanta, Georgia in 1982, was "an outgrowth of the 'Strategy Conference on Homophobia in the Churches' [1979] . . . [T]hat conference brought together 16 different Lesbian and Gay caucuses from various Christian denominations, and focused on strategies for dealing with homophobia by educating denominational memberships to the insights, needs, and hopes of their Lesbian and Gay members.'
