Correspondence 1939-1960s

Scope and Contents

Correspondence to and from Johh Hubbard from his days with the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington, D.C. in the late 1930s; in the Navy during World War II; his years at Tulane University including letters from his wife, Lucille; banking notices and utility bills; greeting cards; and much business correspondence.

Travel brochures, pamphlets on Great Britain's Labour Party, college brochures and calendars, a class record book for a 1951-52 history class at Tulane University.

Hubbard's Recommendations 1981-1988

Scope and Contents

This series contains handwritten and typed letters of recommendation from Dr. Hubbard for applicants to law schools, graduate schools, scholarships, and various academic faculty positions. Included also are many thank-you notes from the applicants.

Personal Papers 1941-1987

Scope and Contents

Dr. Hubbard's personal papers include documents from his time as a naval cadet during World War II, travel papers and itineraries, club membership papers, passports, and three framed photographs of a woman (presumably his wife), and miscellaneous ephemera.

Speeches, Remarks, and Addresses 1969-1979

Scope and Contents

The series is comprised of speeches that Hubbard presented during his tenure as USC's president, during which time he addressed many universities and organizations on various topis such as the role of the private university, international relations, etc.

USC Board of Trustees 1981-1988

Scope and Contents

This series includes Dr. Hubbard's files dating to the years he served as a trustee emeritus on the USC Board of Trustees. The papers include agendas, correspondence, directories, and a few non-Board-related files of correspondence from the same time period.

Vice-President and Provost Files 1969-1970

Scope and Contents

Correspondence and publications related to the School of Public Administration, Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (for which Hubbard served on the Executive Committee), College and University Reports (newsletter), Institute of Aerospace Safety and Management materials, School of Social Work, agendas and correspondence related to a Deans' Retreat in 1969, the Von Kleinsmid Center for International and Public Affairs (including the Delinquency Control Institute), Boys Republic California, and the American Council on Education.
