Description
Papers of author, editor, engineer, and diving officer Edward Cargile. Papers reflect Cargile's life and work as a diver, underwater photographer, author, editor of dive journals, and consultant in the dive industry, as well as illustrate the history of diving and the diving industry. The collection ranges in date from 1946-2006, with the bulk of the collection dating from 1969-2001.
Background
Edward C. Cargile was born in San Diego, California in 1939. He began diving and experimenting with underwater photography in his early teens. While in high school, Cargile joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. While attending San Diego City College, he transferred to the Marine Corps Active Reserves.
