The collection consists of a day book belonging to the Asher family, recording personal and professional information activities
and accounts for 1912-1913.
Background
Josephus Marion Asher (1833-1912) arrived in San Diego in 1869 and was the first commercial nurseryman in the area, providing
buyers with fruit trees, shrubs, and vines from his Fruit Vale ranch in Paradise Valley. Asher was married to Sarah Haley
Clark (1844 – 1913) and they had eight children, including Josephus Marion Asher, Jr. and Robert H. Asher (hermit of Palomar).
