Scope and Contents

Biographical materials consist of papers documenting Witkin's family, personal, and professional life, including vital records, juvenilia, Bar admission certificates, awards and honors, appointment books, greeting cards, memorial programs, and condolences received by Alba Witkin after her husband's death. Materials include writings, publications, newspaper clippings, and ephemera documenting Witkin's involvement in student activities at UC Berkeley in the 1920s.

Arrangement

Scope and Contents

This series consists of correspondence exchanged between Witkin and family members, friends, and colleagues. Copies of letters written by Witkin are often included in the files. Important correspondents include: historian Harold Cherniss; attorney Melvin Belli; science fiction writer J. Francis McComas; Governor Edmund G. "Pat" Brown; Ralph Kleps, administrator of the California courts; and California Supreme Court Justices Rose Bird, Louis Burke, Otto Kaus, Malcom Lucas, Stanley Mosk, Matthew Tobriner, Roger Traynor, and Donald Wright. Correspondence files related to Witkin's speaking engagements may contain programs, articles, and other ephemera.
