Biography/Administrative History
A native of Scotland, John Marshall, Jr. came to the United States with his parents and settled in San Francisco. When he
was 21 John moved to the East Coast for work, and by May 1900 had taken over management of the Central Department of the Fireman's
Fund in Chicago. He was elected vice-president and director of Fireman's Fund and Home Fire and Marine in Nov. 1919, and
he returned to San Francisco the following year. He retired in February 1928 and died in 1932.
Scope and Content of Collection
Personal papers of John Marshall, Jr. include news clippings, family photographs, a memorial resolution, a few photocopies,
and three issues of Fireman's Fund Record, from 1919, 1926, 1932.
