    Biographical / Historical

    Technician Fourth Grade George David "Bud" Colby, United States Army (8/3/1910 - 8/10/1999) was born in Blue Earth, Minnesota and died in Fridley, Minnesota. He was employed by the Excelsior Baking Company before serving in the United States Army during the Second World War. T/4 Colby was a baker attached to General George S. Patton's Third Army. He continued with this profession after his return to civilian life, and was active in the Minnesota Bakers Union.

    Content Description

    This collections contains correspondence sent by T/4 George Colby, USA to his sister Cassie Theisen née Colby in Minneapolis, Minnesota during the Second World War. T/4 Colby was a baker attached to General George S. Patton's Third Army. He described the air battles and muddy terrain that his unit endured as it advanced from France into Germany. The collection also contains a clipping from a Minnesota newspaper reporting on a chance encounter between Colby and Army Air Corps Lieutenant Charles Rosewall, also from Faribault County, that occurred in May of 1943 in England. The clipping features a photo of both men.
