"The purposes of LAGALPA shall be to promote the growth and improvement of the gay and lesbian communications media; to stimulate the advancement and recognition of gay and lesbian press/media persons both within and beyond the gay and lesbian communications media; to ensure and promote ethical standards of journalism; to encourage fair and sound financial management and advertising practices; to foster an interchange of skills and resources; to increase understanding and improve communication among gays and lesbians of all races within the community at large; and to protect and defend the freedom and integrity of the press and other media."
