    Biography/Administrative History

Anthony DeGregorio (1905-1987) was born in Abruzzi, Italy in 1905. His parents immigrated to the United States in 1912 when he was six years old. He was also a collector of rare books and had the desire to write the history of the pioneers of the Italian Pentecostal movement in the United States. He started corresponding with the fathers of this movement from 1936 and collected their biographical and ministerial details. He gave this collection of biographies the title ‘History of the Italian Movement.’

    Scope and Content of Collection

The collection contains some biographical details on Anthony DeGregorio but primarily consists of his extensive correspondence with Italian Pentecostal pioneers and the material he collected and used in the writing of ‘The Italian Christian Movement’. Included in his collection are draft histories of about 50 local Pentecostal congregations. The approximately 115 unpublished biographies and autobiographies (many written in Italian) of significant figures in Italian-American Pentecostalism offer rare glimpses into a people strongly opposed to "organized denominationalism." The documents shed light on the Italian-American experience and are useful for research on Italian and Brazilian-Italian Pentecostalism.
