Abstract: The collection contains three scrapbooks and a photo album, loose photographs of family and friends, correspondence, ephemera
from Goin's restaurant, military service documents, and other legal documents. Photographs include Goin in the Navy, cooking,
his family and friends, and Radical Faeries. There is correspondence with family and friends including Don Kilhefner and Arthur
Bressan. Ephemera includes menus from Crit's Corner Café which was in Sacramento, California.
Physical Location: The collection is stored onsite.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The papers were donated by Sanford Goin on May 12, 2006. 3 scrapbooks and 1 photo album had been given to Joseph Cain for
the Nomenus Radical Faerie Archives in 1986. The SFPL archives staff decided to reunite the scrapbooks and photo album with
the papers in 2022.
Newbold Crittenden Goin, II (1938-1986) was born and raised in Gainsville, Florida. After high school graduation he joined
the Navy. He was a Navy cook and served from 1956-1965. He married in the 1960s and then divorced when he came out. He was
active in the Masons and Shriners but was not reinstalled after he disclosed his homosexuality. He moved to Sacramento after
his divorce and opened Crit's Corner Café with the help of the local Presbyterian church. He became a member of the Radical
Faeries and was sometimes known as "Hoti." Crit was on disability and limited income for most of his life after the restaurant
closed. He lived in many places including San Francisco, Tennessee, and Honeydew, California.
