Scope and Content of Collection
The roots of Roseville's newspaper history began in 1906 when publisher C.W. Anderson established the weekly Roseville Register.
In July 1908 under the operations of Crome & Beecroft, the Tribune published its first issue. The Tribune was purchased in
March 1920 by R.F. Brill & Son. The Tribune started as a weekly publication before going to a twice-a-week schedule in March
1922. In April 1923, the Brills would purchase the Register and combine the two papers to form the Roseville Tribune and Register.
The present-day version of the Press Tribune would be formed in 1942 when Fred Green and Frank Bartholomew, owners of the
Roseville Press, purchased the Tribune and Review and would proceed to merge their new acquisition with the Press.
The Press Tribune became a Monday-through-Friday publication beginning in 1953. During its days as a daily newspaper, the
Press Tribune's coverage area spanned from Newcastle to Citrus Heights. Not only did the daily version of the Press Tribune
cover local events, but it also included stories from throughout the United States and the world.
In 2005, the Press Tribune cut back on its publication schedule by returning to a twice-a-week status, publishing on Wednesdays
and Saturdays. In July 2012, the Press Tribune moved to a once-a-week schedule, publishing on Fridays.
Today, the Press Tribune is operated by Gold Country Media, a division of San Diego-based Brehm Communications. Gold Country
Media operates seven newspapers serving western Placer, eastern Sacramento and western El Dorado counties. The Press Tribune's
offices are at 188 Cirby Way in Roseville. Some of the features in the current Press Tribune include news, calendar, arts
and entertainment, healthy living, finance, business and sports coverage that focus on Roseville and Granite Bay.
